Thanks for the info.
Re: Re: Re: police interceptor
we put them on at about 2000 miles on stock rotors. since our PD didn't want to cut a check to have Hawk pads sent
, they spent $150 to have midas order their best ceramic pads. we also had DOT 5 synthetic brake fluid put in replacing the OEM fluid.
at first, they were really slick and spongy, but after some 0-100-0 runs they broke in nicely. they don't seem to fade as bad as the stock pads.
i haven't used hawk pads, but from what i've heard, i'd probably opt for those before the ceramic pads. i think that's what i'm going to try and put on my car. seem to be a little cheaper than the ceramic pads.
the ceramic pads make very little brake dust though.

you sure about that? the only police cars i've ever seen with any major modifications belong to beat the heat, and those aren't driven on the street. no government would ever accept that kind of liability.

then in oklahoma comming from california a black camaro pulled up next to me, taunted me in my camaro....I didn't responde i was using cruise control, but then got on front of me, then pulled me over saying that fog lights are illigal in oklahoma and that they need to be tunred off....what a *****....

Check the meter while we're at it
Hey DV, actually I know a couple of cops and if yourlike the chief of police or your the guy who buys these cars, you go to a GM or Ford dealer and you talk to the managers that are there. and they have the Special Operation catalog, the same one where you can order F150 trucks and haulers that will have the packages you need. Every cop has a favorite GM or ford dealer, they always offer cops special deals on car's so they all have one dealer that gets them everything they need. But yeah, its not hard, in order for them to sell you this though, you need to have some sort of related work to order these cars....at least that's what I was told....never really went in before to ask for apolice car before.......
generally, police cars are purchased through contract. at the beginning of each model year, a group of governments will take bids on every available car for police use. the lowest bidder will win the contract.
when a member of the group, or even someone outside going through the group, gets ready to purchase their vehicles, they go through this contract knowing they are receiving the best possible price.
there are only a few dealerships who participate in the government contract programs so they are usually the only ones who take delivery of police package cars. we bought this car in august so finding one was HARD. through a contract, we found this car at a dealership in illinois. he had 7 white ones, one black one, and one blue one. we got the blue one. that was the last group of 2002 B4C camaros.
when you decide on a vehicle, it must be approved and justified before the city council, commissioner's court, or state government; depending on what type of government it is. once it's approved or the budget for it has been approved, then it's purchased.
we paid about $23K for that car and added another $25K in equipment to it.
when i did the proposal for our traffic program, i figured in a motorcycle. the chief said, "i'd rather have something like a camaro."
that's how it happened.

Differences
I've got both a 2002 Z-28 and a 2002 B4C. I can tell you exactly what the differences are from the factory - I've compared the build sheets for both. Please note that police departments can order any Camaro - from V6 (don't know of any) to Z-28 to SS to B4C. I'm only addressing the differences between the Z-28 and the B4C for the 2002 model year.
1. The B4C has different pricing and option packages from the factory. List price is a bit less than an equivalent Z.
2. Except for T-tops and GSC tires, I believe every option that is available on the Z is available on the B4C, to include the 6-speed. My B4C is an M6 with all available options, except for chrome wheels.
3. The only non-appearance difference between the B4C and the Z is the B4C has the 1LE lower control arms.
4. The appearance differences are the B4C is debadged, and has a color matched top.
5. Alternator is the same from the factory.
6. The B4C doesn't have wheel locks. According to Scott Settlemire (fbodfather), that was just a factor of production dates, and not a difference between models.
As a GM employee, I could not order, or get a B4C. I happened to find a dealer with 5 that had been ordered by a local PD, and not accepted due to funding problems. Near the end of the model year, a number of dealers were able to order them, then turn them over to GMMG for conversion to ZL1s.
Hope that helps.
