Playing with autotap tonight noticed something about gearing

unfortunatly from the factory my car came with 2.73 gears at least according to the codes but when i was playing with autotap tonight @40mph i was pulling 1230-1250rpms which would work out to 3.23 gears...what gives?

Thanks
Bill

The previous owner changed the gears if your not the original owner.

its very possible i just dont see that being the case...the guy who sold it to me seemed like a dullard when it came to cars and im sure he wouldnt know gears from a catalytic converter to be honest with you. The only things he had done to the car were a borla which he had someone else do the install and a K&N filter and he probably got someone to do that too lol cuz he sure didnt do any of his oil changes by himself. And who would go through the process of changing from 2.73's to go to 3.23's? Youd have to change the carrier, get the reluctor ring..then the gears themselves and have them installed for what maybe a tenth cuz most 2.73 cars ive seen havent run all that bad at the track. Anywayz thanks for the input.

not to get off topic but believe me theres a difference between 2.73 and 3.23....granted I didnt pay for a new carrier and everythign. i just traded for an entire stock 3.23 rear with 20,000 miles on it, but it DOES make a difference alll the same....
