THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
I am looking to purchase a full exhuast system for a 98 Z28, but i am not liking what i see. It seems that all exhausts make a sucking in noise when the accelerator is realeased that i don not like at all from a high rev. Hear is a vid of an example of what i mean.

Does anyone know of a system where there is none of this sucking in loud noise when the accelerator is released from revs or no rasp noise at all from an acceleration or rev. It seems that an X pipe reduces this irritating noise compared to a Y pipe. Is this true?
What do I have to do to get the car to sound just like this c6 but without changing my LS1 to and LS2?

Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
I have a TDs setup with Lts with no cats or mufflers with 2.25 in pipes out the back and it sounded "perfect". No popping, sucking, crackleing or anything. Just deep smooth exhaust notes.
Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
what you're hearing i think...the high pitched rattle...right after the accelerator is released. is what most people call "rasp".
that is totally dependant upon the type of muffler you have.
the corsa on the vette is a pretty refined sound because the muffler is good quality and is designed to produce that sound.
something like bullet mufflers will result in alot of rasp.
i have 3" true duals on my car, and i put 4x9" magnaflow straight through mufflers on my cammed LS1 (similar cam to the vette) and it sounds very similar...almost quieter.

The GMMG system will get you what you want. Except for the choppy idle from the non-stock cam in the C6 sound clip, my SS sounds exactly like the C6 sound clip.

Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
read the signature chief...
its all there....
have a video....but it isn't very good. from 15ft away there was too much ambient noise outside to really hear the car.
gotta do a closer one...and host is someplace...

Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
That C6 has the same "sucking" sound, its just muffled better.
The GMMG will make the same noise as exhaust number 1 (glasspacks crackle no matter how glorified they are) which I'd guess is a SLP loud mouth w/out cats. The LM has NO muffler, just a resonator.
You can get a Corsa (what the C6 had) but they're pricey. The Hooker or SLP dual/dual or 2OTL (2 out the left) will keep the exhaust muffled and cost about half of what a Corsa will and they all flow well. Keeping cats will keep down the rasp also. I'd also suggest the Magnaflow, but it'll have a little more rasp than the others.
Got to LS1sounds.com for clips.

Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
the numbers on the cam are duration of intake and exhaust. the bigger the duration, the "bigger" the cam...ie more power.
it will be hard to make good power with a cam and not rev past 6k. my cam peaks at about 6500.

Read up. Read here and then go over to ls1tech.com and read some more over there. There is plenty of information out there for you to digest.

Trust me, GM isn't going to build a performance engine with a bottom end that will blow up a few hundred RPM past redline (at least not anymore
)People mis-shift all time (or so it seems reading this board) and accidentaly spin the thing up to 7k rpm. The pistons and rods don't magically shoot out there. The damage they sometimes get is because the valvetrain isn't capable of keeping up with it, specifically the springs and push rods. This is why you upgrade those parts when you do a cam swap, especially since you're already there.
Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
There are many LS1's runnig low 11's with the stock rotating assembly. Do you think they're not spinning above 6k?
You have to realize, the LS1 isn't the same as an old SBC. Out of the box, the rods are better, the pistons are better, the crank is better, oiling system is better, cooling system is better, ignition system is better, the main caps are Very beefy (make LT1 caps look tiny) with 6 bolts holding them in, the valve train is lighter etc etc etc...

Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
This is my car. Small, very streetabl cam. Can probably be made to pass emissions but would be better on a 114 LSA for that. You might lose some of the "chop" in the idle. I also have the Corsa exhaust you are asking about. It is a great exhaust with stock manifolds and cats. If you go LTs without cats just be ready - it is not for the meek!

Re: THE PERFECT SOUND (vid inside)
I think you can spin an LS1 safely till about 6,700 (well maybe not SAFELY but some people do it). Then you need to watch for your rod end bolts crapping out. Then you need ot worry about pushrods 100 rpms after that lol. And when spinning that fast (6900+), I PERSONALLY would feel safer if I had shaft rockers and dual springs.. I dont know about LT1's
