Post People with 2.73 gears.....

Well I just found out after a month of owning my 2000 Z28 that is only has the standard 2.73 gears . I don't really want to go though the trouble of having them replaced... so how good are 2.73 gears at the track compared to 3.23. Is is worth me to upgrade?

I have a A4 have a ST3500 converted planned in the near future, so should get gears when I get this?

Well, the 2.73 will make it easier to launch and will also keep you closer to your powerband when you go through the traps (I think ... never actually been to the track with mine )

On my list of future mods, 3.42 and a 3000 stall are close to the top (doing SFCs and STB next month, then exhaust, then I might consider doing the gears and TC)

I'm sure someone will give a better answer to this, but 2.73 is incredibly easy to lauch, especially compared to 3.73 or 4.10 (shudder to think of 4.10 in an A4 )

hmmm maybe I'll be good with the 2.73 for a bit . Guess its not gonna be a must mod for me, but if I ever get a moser rear then I'll get the better gears 2. I have alot of stuff planned so I know I'll need that 12 bolt

Mad - I replaced my entire rear with one out of an M6 car, I like the change but sure miss the 2.73 gas mileage. BTW, saw your post on MFBA - they're a great group. Paul G is my little brother.

Thumbs up

I switched from 2.73s to 3.42s and am so glad i did.I am wanting to installe a stall in the bnear future. But it pulls harder now. With decent tires, launching isnt really a huge problem....

I like the 2.73 gear, but I will eventually replace it with a 3.42 or 3.73. I think it suits me well because as the others say it is easy to launch with. I can floorboard my car and it doesn't spin the tires much. I am going Wednesday for my first dragstrip runs and I think I will do better with the smaller gear. My dad has an '02 Z28 with the 3.23, I noticed it breaks traction fairly easy.

I have a friend who went from 2.73 to 3.42 in his LT1 he was really pleased with the results. Wasn't so happy about the gas mileage, but performance is never cheap.

I just got my 2.73 replaced with 3.73...I love it...Huge difference..and I also got Vig3200 TC...Will see how we do at the track now...But, I say 3.73 are great gears for auto.

12.789@107mph 1.810--60ft with 2.73s
12.3's@108mph 1.6's -60ft expecting now with 3.73's.

we shall see., maybe not in humid florida summer, but in winter time, it should be down there.
