P&P throttle body
P&P throttle body
I saw a guy's TB that had the indentations filled with an epoxy of some sort to smooth out the airflow. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or what to fill up? and if so, do you have any pictures or know what type of epoxy to use? I'd think something like JB weld, but I dont want anything breakng off and making its way into my intake!!! I was planning on pulling off my TB and doing a PP job in the next couple weeks, but I saw this a couple days ago. thanks for the help

Re: P&P throttle body
I just got finished porting, and am almost done with the polish part. i need to be able to drive it, so i put it back on, and I'll finish the polishing job in the next few days. i've noticed a difference, moderately better, not GREAT, but i'm happy.
I also noticed that my throttle cable is pretty loose, and its imparing my WOT by about a couple millimeters, i cant see any adjustment on it, how do i tighten it?

Re: P&P throttle body
WOW so i took my final steps in porting and polishing, i'll link some pics in the morning
2 problems: My idle is now at about 900-1000rpms..... and i spilled coolant on my belts, now its screeching lke a b*tch.. lol
After i got back from my test drive (AWESOME throttle response now) i let it idle out of gear and clutch out for a minute, and it went back down to 500rpm. i turned it off and called it a night..
When i was reinstalling the TB blade, i checked to see if i had a large amount of light creeping around the circle when i had the blade fully closed, so i know i didnt OVER port, i havent adjusted my idle screw yet at all.
Does the car just need to be driven for a few miles to correct itsself, or should i start screwing with my screw?

Re: P&P throttle body
the idle screw is the WRONG way to adjust idle on these cars...don't mess with it.
to adjust the "slack" in the cable, follow it upstream and you'll come to a connector looking thing...maybe 18" from the tb. it is the adjustment connector.
i found out my TB was only opening about 80% due to too much slack in the cable. adjusted that and it works fine now.

Re: P&P throttle body
thank you, I'll get to adjusting soon. And after driving for about 20 min today, my idle is fine now.
To anyone who reads this, if you ever have the time, P&P your throttle body if you dont want to shell out the cash for a new one or pay to have it done! the gain is WELL worth it. it really woke my engine up alot more than I expected.

FYI - Your car has an Idle Air Control (IAC) valve that adjusts airflow (adds/subtracts a little) to control your idle rpms. It also has an idle adder for startup conditions that lasts about 20 seconds before the revs start to come down at a rate of 5rpm/sec. That would probably explain the first few minutes of high idle. The car can also learn over a period of time how much trim needs to be added/subtracted with the IAC valve to maintain the right rpms at different coolant temps. That would explain why it "learns" itself back to ~550rpm after a few minutes. Let me know if you have any questions about fixing this and I'll walk you through what needs to be done...
Re: P&P throttle body
I think you nailed it down pretty good for me. I was just wanting to know if it was normal. Yeah, i hear it isnt exactly good to fill in the iac and drill a couple holes, so i left em open and just ported the lips. thanks for the info!
