Smile Oxygen Sensors

Can anyone help? I need to know how to change the oxygen sensors on a 2001 CamaroZ28. We bought it from a friend and he said the code that came up was for the CO2 sensors. Please help.

I'll move this post to the "LS1/LS6/LS..... Engine Tech" forum, since that's what your 2001 Z28 is equipped with.

Your car is equipped with four heated O2 sensors (no CO2 sensors). Two of them are located before the catalytic converters, 2 of them are after the catalytic converters. You need to post the EXACT numerical code (P0xxx), since that will tell you exactly which sensor has the problem, and what the problem is. Not all O2 sensors codes necessarily require replacement of the O2 sensors.

oxygen sensor location

I have not looked for mine yet, but will in a couple weeks when I do a tune up (z28). On most cars there is two. One between the exhaust manifold and cat, and another one after the cat. My Lexus has three. You will need a special tool (socket) to take it off without messing thigngs up. Autozone will loan you one for free, but they are only $8 to own. Hope that helps.

It's harder to jack up the car than to replace them. Look midway up the headers. Unbolt with a 7/8 wrench

unhook the cable.

replace.

move to next.

It's seriously a 10 minute job.

And I had trouble swapping a swaybar.

The only thing I would add to these instructions is if the new O2 sensors don't have some antiseize on the threads, make sure to place a bit on the threads before installing them.

Yeah, mine came antiseized. They came off a 15k mile rebuild.

If you plan on adding any kind of headers that are coated in the near future, make sure you replace the o2 sensors after the install cuz the coating will come off and cause the sensors to give a false reading.
