Oxygen sensor replacement

OK Gang;
I want to repalce my Oxygen sensor as my 2000 LS-1 has 102k
miles.

What improvement, if any can I expect?
How difficult to do?
How many required?
What's the cost?
Can these sensors cause the service engine light to come on.
Any info greatly appreciated.

If your O2 sensor is bad, it'll give incorrect readings, causing your car to run lean/rich

Don't know how hard.. should be an unscrew/rescrew in new one .. (make sure the car is hot, when you do it, to make it come out easier), there's ... 2 on 4th gens, i believe... MAYBE there's 4.. i'm not sure

cost? don't know.

Yes, they can cause SES light to come on

O2 sensors are supposed to last 20-30,000 miles
I get 12MPG on my 87 camaro, and I have reason to believe it's somewhat the O2's problem, too (140,000 miles)

You can but an o2 sensor socket which is a good idea, it works better if the pipes are cold and there are four o2's.

All you need to replace an oxygen sensor is a 7/8" wrench. There are 2 before the cats and 2 after. I wouldn't bother changing the 2 after the cats if I were you.

Is there a specific trouble code that will tell you which sensor is going bad? My car is running very rich and i have about 70k on my car.

yes, i believe
It'll say Bank1 or Bank2, i THINK...
if it returns a code about the CATS, then either your CATS is bad, or the O2 AFTER the CATS is bad

i believe

if the pipes are hot, then the cats are much hotter at the same time. Good luck doing that without burning yourself.

My after cat, O2 sensors aren't even in the exhaust anymore. I just zip tied them out of the way until I could make a hole in the pipes for them. I have a SES light sometimes because of it, but my fuel air mix on the dyno is perfect. Is that a problem?
