Exclamation overheat need help please

I have a 2000 z-28 and it is overheating after Installed the hypertech 160 stat. It got inbetween the 210 mark and 260. I drained and flushed the coolent out again and ran it. It did the same thing except when I turned the car off the temp gauge went up to 260 almost. What is my problem I hope I didnt blow any head gaskets. Nothing seems to be leaking. I read something if it isnt purged right then the cooling system wont work. How do I purge the cooling system to get all of the bubbles out. Do you guys think that stat is gone as well as the water pump cause I heard if you usually take a stat out you usually take the water pump right with it.

i would check 2 things:

check the stat for proper operation. pull it out, put it in a pot of water on the stove and turn the burner on with a thermometer in the water. when the water gets to 160, you should see or hear the stat open.

also, the 160 stat should have come with directions on purging air from the system. our cars don't have the little air bleed valves that most japanese cars have. i don't remember the procedure exactly, something like running the car for a minute or two with the radiator cap open so all air can escape out the top.

i had no problems after installing my hypertech 160 stat, but i also followed the air puge directions included with the stat.

anyone else know the procedure for purging air from our systems?

It is your thermostat. Reading your post indicates that your problem started after changing the stat. Changing the pump and coolant is a waste of time and money. Bring it back for exchange and cross your fingers you didn't cause a slight warp in one of your heads cause a blown head gasket will indicate that quickly.
Good luck.
