over-revved v. what could I have broken?

so I let a freind drive my car this weekend. I told him he could be hard on it if he wanted. Anyway when he tried to go to 4th gear he hit 2nd. he got the clutch back in quick but the engine rpm still spiked. We immedietly pulled over and I didnt hear anything wierd. All the guages looked good, oil pressure was right where it normally is. On my way home I stopped at another freinds house. The car cooled down some and when I started it it started clicking.

I drove it home fine, it seemed to run ok except at one stop sign where it kinda chugged ( I guess thats a good way to discribe it)

the next day it ran fine when I started it and today it was fine (I mean it was still clicking but ran fine) However coming back from the gas station it was chugging again and the SES light came on right when I pulled in. I dont have a scanner and wont be able to pull the code until tommorrow.

So what does everyone think I broke? Did I spin a bearing? Or is it just a bent pushrod? Or is it something in between?

The clicking/ticking sounds alot like a loose rocker on my SBC, that made me think it was a pushrod. Yet he sound appears to be louder fom the cars bottom drivers side.

Guess that teaches menot to let friends drive my car. TIA for the help guys.

Mods if I put this in the wrong forum Im sorry, pleae move as required.

edit: not sure if it matters but its the camaro in my sig

I'll leave it in this section because it's LS1 Engine related.

The pushrods in these cars are complete crap and can be bent/broken with a single over-rev, especially a manual over-rev like a wrong gear.

I'd replace them all with some hardened ones for around $100.

Yeah I was thinking it was time for a cam anyway. May aswell replace those, the cam and the springs.

Would the bent push rod account for the chugging? Its kinda like the motor is stumbbling for a sec, buts its only at idle.

If it's bad enough and the valve isn't opening all the way, then sure.

When i overrevved my old camaro {99 z28 also}, i went from 3rd into 2nd at redline. I bent 5 pushrods, one looked like an S, and the car sounded like and old beatup pickup truck. It was horrible, I feel your pain.--I'll never race with a drink in the cup holder again, lol

Don't get too excited yet. Replace the pushrods and see what happens, but if it still doesn't work right, you could have bent a valve. Those kinda suck to replace. I know because that's what happened when my friend did the same thing to my car.

Also, if you ever think that you, or someone else, will do that to your car again, hardened pushrods would not be a good idea. If you do put those in and it happens again, say goodbye to other, more expensive parts.

Morale of the story: Don't let anyone drive your car. Especially when they are so tempting to drive fast.
