Ordered the Magnaflow muffler for my 98 Camaro!

Should be getting it by early next week. Can't wait to get it installed. Was unsure on which application to get . So I went with the 2.5 inlet , dual 2.5 outlet. I was figuring that my exhaust shop would have an easier time welding my 2.75 inch piping to the the 2.5 inlet. Rather than the 2.75 going up to the 3 inch inlet. Here is the link and I got it for $91 shipped. Not too bad IMO. If I should go with the 3 inch inlet. Someone let me know. So I can change it real quick. I don't plan on changing the intermediate pipe anytime soon. You would think they would make a 2.75 inch inlet standard for a Camaro muffler.

Since we have a 2.75" pipe, you will be .25" off no matter which of those Magnaflows you pick. I had the magnaflow muffler with the 3" inlet installed on my car a couple of weeks ago. and they had no problem with it. They heated up the 3" inlet and crimped it down around the factory pipe before welding it.

Yah, I've seem them expand pipe. Just thought it would be simplerer to expand the muffler inlet than to crimp it down. Either way shouldn't be a problem and I would beleive difference in performance is almost negligible. Did you install aftermarket tips or did you keep the stock ones? 3 inch tips do look good but keeping that chrome clean can be a pain. But it would enhance the sound I beleive over the stock tips.

I still have the stock tips on mine. I wanted to keep it looking stock. I did a Borla on my 96 TA, but wanted to go for more of a stealth approach on this one.

That's a good price on that muffler (I paid $105 for mine).

I went with the 3 inch inlet/dual 2.5 inch outlets. I reduced the I pipe up to meet the muffler. I think it's gotta be better than reducing your 2.75 down to 2.5. But that's just my opinion. I also replaced my tailpipes with 2.5 inch mandrel bends. When finished, I noticed a big improvement in flow.

If Magnaflow claims that muffler flows 94% better, then our stock one must be extremely restrictive.

How does that muffler sound, deep, throaty, mild...?

It is.

Good description. The big complaint about the Magnaflow is that they are not loud enough. Well, at lower RPMs they are definitely not too loud- I think perfect. But when you step on it, it comes alive, just like the others.

I have the whole Magnaflow cat-back on a pretty much stock car. It's definitely not as loud as many of the other cat-backs. It does however grab the attention of people with "normal" cars. I chose Magnaflow because I wanted stainless steel, cheap price, and not too loud volume. I'm not disappointed. I use the polished tips that it came with (3.5"). They're not too hard to keep clean. Just wash them with a sponge with soap and water when you wash the rest of your car.

Did you gain or lose any gas mileage with your Magnaflow muffler?

I keep hearing good things about them, but I'm still looking at everything before I buy an exhaust for my car. I'm looking for an improved flow and good sound. I don't know whether I should get a system or just the muffler, they'll both have the same effect right?

By the way, nice car and website.

Hmmm.... gas mileage. I've never bothered to compute my gas mileage. I didn't know your gas mileage could potentially suffer with an aftermarket exhaust.

Mine's not typically "quiet" although i would rather it be a bit louder, im hopeing that after i add headers it will really "wake up" my muffler and get alot louder, but it's nice when you have someone in the car where you dont want it to be too loud, it's a great sound. it's really powerful soundsnig, but like i said not quiet loud enough

I don't want it redneck loud anyways. I bet it will get louder as the years go on. Fiberglass type matting has to sooner or later burn out. If you want louder. Then why not add a high flo or no cat and headers. Or even add a cutout. The muffler seems to do a good job in finetuning the exhaust sound. Not saw raw and tin canny like the Flowmaster. And not popping and crackling like straight pipe sound. I think I will like the mufflers sound.

So now you'll have a 2.5 inch cork in your exhaust system. An exhaust is only as big as it's smallest component. Previously the 2.75" I-pipe now your 2.5" muffler. Send it back and get the 3" inlet one. A good muffler shop can handle the conversion easily.

Well congrats on the Magnaflow purchase (for keeping the muffler in the same spot, Magnaflow is what I usually advise. But I do agree send it back and get the 3" Inlet muffler..

Now for the Popping And Crackling, my car does not have a popping and crackling sound.. I have Dynomouth and it sounds great (sometimes I feel it is tooo quiet) but compared to stock it is louder.. You have to actually hear DM in person in order to truly judge it...

Won't send it back. I'll just have them change my order right there. Just curious. I thought dynomax makes a mandrel bent 3 inch intermediate at a good price. Thought I saw it in a JC Whitney book one time. Anyone have any idea if they still do? I know. Why didn't I just get the catback? Because I was thinking that intermediate was $150 or less. Thus I would still save atleast $100 over buying the catback by making my own custom catback.
