Ok help me pick a cam.

I've got the mods listed in sig. Im looking for a cam only right now no head work. What is a good choice for good power but still streetable? I think I have all the other essentials ie 3.73, stall, headers typical stuff. And anyone with similiar mods and a cam I would love your real world input. Thanks

something like the tr 224 would be hard to beat. very streetable and figure about 380rwhp

next step up would be something like the 228r or some of the custome 230 cams.

there are hundreds of choices...do some research

Yeah I've checked around and was looking at the F13 or tr 224. Just looking for other opinions.

I know, thats another reason Im looking for help. I would like to get as close to 400rwhp as possible. But realistically I think 375-380 is a good goal.

Have you looked into what type of springs you'll be getting? I believe you'll need to swap the stock ones out and put in new stronger pushrods. Some cams require stronger springs than others, but the ones you've pointed out so far are pretty mild I believe. Nevertheless, nows the time to look for some springs and pushrods; TSP is a sponsor that has cam packages including the springs and pushrods I believe...they could give you a good idea of what is best for your application... My vote would go toward the 224r or 228r... you won't need anything more and won't want anything less

any cam worth a damn will need new springs. stockers are only good to something like .525" lift.

i say the 224 or the 228 as well. they are proven performers and are very tolerable on the street.

theres always heads and intake later if you want more power. budget heads on either cam will make 400rwhp

what do you consider to be driveable? There are cams that will produce anywhere from 430-370rwhp, so you have to be specific about what you want, will tolerate, etc.
Do you want it to lope?
Will you be racing the car?
Where do you want to shift at?

I found a heads and cam package from someone I know. The heads are 862 castings with .625 springs flow .200 144 .300 203 .400 250 .500 286 .600 300 just freshly done. The cam is 224/228 590 595 113+1. How does this setup sound? Im thinking 400rwhp with a good tune. Any opinions?

Yup I bought the heads and cam. I am really hoping to hit 400+ rwhp with a fairly streetable setup. I'll probably make this my winter project.
