"Oily" Smell
"Oily" Smell
Hello all,
I have just purchased my first F-body. It is a '98 black Z28 with 48,000 miles on it. I had it checked by a mechanic I trust before I bought it and he said it is extremely tight, with no leaks or mechanical problems evident. The only problem he saw with it was that the rear struts will need replacement sometime in the near future.
My question is this : It has a K&N filter on it, and the interior is getting a constant "oily" smell in it. Also, when you look under the hood you can smell it. It is not like a motor oil smell or a burnt oil smell, it is like a fresh oil smell. Also, everytime I drive it, when I open the hood, the filter box has an oily film over the outside of it. I wipe it clean, then drive again, then the box is oily again. Anyone have any suggestions?
I love the performance of this car and am very happy with my decision to enter the F body world. This car is a 6 speed and at 100mph it is only at 2400 RPM. Wow!
