Question Oil pressure problem 40 psi????

well i have a 99 Camaro Z28 with the glass T-top

i have been noticing that my oil pressure is always at 40psi but their are occasions that it drops to 20psi for a just a little bit and at accelaration it goes back up to 40psi and stays their. its very rare when the oil pressure is at 50psi.

does anyone one know if this is a major problem or how can it be fix, estimate of how much it would run me

i know that the pressure should stay at 60psi at all times correct?

The pre-2001s had the crummy oil pump. It's possible that it's going out depending on the mileage of the car.

You should be around 60psi at WOT -- definitely not at all times.
Idle/cruising oil pressure will vary depending on the oil pump and the viscosity of the oil.

I see around 40psi at idle, 50psi cruising, and 60+ under WOT, but I'm using a ported pump and Mobil-1 5w30 Synthetic.

40psi is normal given the situation. Read the above.

30-40 psi would be normal at idle.

20psi is a little on the low side, but on a higher mileage motor I wouldn't see that as a major deal. You are still getting pressure = flow.

Although, if it is high mileage I would probably throw in a LS6 oil pump for added insurance. Not that expensive. (if you do your own work)

at idle in very few occasion it will drop to 30psi and it will stay in between 30psi and 40psi in acceleration its between 40psi and 50psi, very few occasions it will be inbetween 30-30psi during acceleration.

Had a similar problem with my 98. It would run sometimes as low as 35psi at 60MPH cruising, and would rarely go over 40-45 even when cold. Switched from a Fram to a "Parts Master" oil filter and the problem went away. I know some won't like to hear that but it sure worked in my case. Now I'm at 60 or so when cold and a little over 40 at 60MPH warm crusing.

I have a 98 Z28, which I just changed the oil (with Royal Purple 5W-30) I just got it out for the year, I noticed that my oil PSI gets above 70 when I'm on it. The manual states 5.5 quarts, but it also lists the motor at 5.2L which is obviously incorrect

Is the oil quantity correct? I'm also running a K&N a oil filter. Any help would be great.

5.5 quarts and 5.2 liters are the same.
