Oil leaking from the pulley, yes I screwed up
I seriously need some HELP.
I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic 10-30 all my cars life. Last month I get advise to get something thicker for my high mileage car(126,200), so i put in 20-50, ran just great for a little over a month. Today night i get a weird sound driving home, no SES light or anything, so I still worry. I get home after driving 20 miles with this sound and smoke is coming out of my car, just a bit to see in the dark. You have to be kidding me
. I Quickly open the hood, and damn, oil around the bottom pulley, just leaking. God, I am a f*cking dumbass. So switching to a thinner oil wont save me huh? What should I do? I am on vacation this whole week so i have time to fix it, IF i didn't do MAJOR damage.

Are you talking about the crank pulley? If so I wouldn't go blaming it on changing oil weights. It's a natual occurance on an older motor.
Get a new seal and a new crank bolt. Then go to a parts store that rents tools and get a balancer puller and installer set.
Pull the belt, the crank bolt, the balancer, and the seal.
Install the new seal, clean up the seal surface on the balancer and re-install it using the proper method for torqueing it. A search should find those specs.

yes I was talking about the crank, sorry. I would have figured the weight would cause some sort of burst in the pump not being able to handle the pressure? I dont know, thanks for reply.
You're the man Al.
You're the man Al.
But regardless, 20W-50 is WAY too thick for my taste on these engines. Maybe if you had some several tolerances out of whack; but in that case I'd just rebuild.
Put a new seal in and put back your old faithful (10W-30)
