Oil Filter Change
Try this to prevent making a mess. Use a flat blade screw driver with a hammer to make a small puncture on the under side of the filter. This will drain out the oil that is in the filter, so that when you unscrew the filter, the excess won't spli out the side and make a mess.

It is also a handy method if you dont have a filter wrench and it doesnt want to come off.. just drive a screwdriver through it and turn the screwdriver.
