Question Oil consumption

Hello all this will be my first post in the ls1 section.
I'm an Lt1 man so bear with me.

My sis picked up a 2000 ws6 not to long ago.
Its been 2k miles since i changed the oil last and the low oil light came on and the car was a little over a quart of oil low.
I checked for leaks and there is nothing to be found.
The car only has 30k miles on it.
Does that sound normal for an ls1?
How much oil do your ls1's consume?
Oh and how much oil are ya supposed to put in an ls1 anyways?

I don't burn any, theres no "none" option in the poll.

It is pretty normal for the LS1 to burn about a quart in between oil changes. A little over a quart after 2k sounds a bit high. Oil pan holds 5.5 quarts. But usually end up pouring in about 5 quarts. Buy a case of six and you'll have a spare quart for when it burns oil in between changes.

Lightbulb 'Bout a 1/2 qt every 3K .

From what I understand, it has the potential to be worse w/ a manual as the engine spends more time in a high rev, no load condition - as in coasting down from speed, or if the engine is being revved at high rpms , but not under WOT - as in you should shift, already !

Mine's an A4 w/ a stall, so I believe that "helps" the condition.

No biggie, all in all - just gives me another excuse to pop the hood & admire my motor !!

Welcome to the

world of the LS1 !!

The problem is more so with manual transmission cars, and it is even more present when the driver downshifts to slow down. It creates some sort of vaccum that will suck oil past the 2nd piston ring. Its a documented problem by GM. They will do an oil consumption test on your car if you bring it into the dealership, and if you "pass" the test (meaning your car eats enough oil), they'll replace your piston rings under warranty. Its about a $1,600 job that GM will eat.....I had mine replaced last spring.

I haven't used a drop of oil since the work was done to my car, and I use synthetic as well. I reccomend getting it done sooner than later while your car is still under warranty if you are using excessive amounts of oil.

First 3k used no oil. Then I added Mobil 1 and was a quart low at the next change. Noticed oil in the intake so I installed a ls6 PCV valley cover and so far so good, but only 1k mi so far. 58k mi now.
