I picked up some Amsoil synthetic lubricants advertisements the other day. They claim up to 25k between oil changes! The rep told me that Mobil 1 was claiming in their advertising that they were the leader in synthetics. Amsoil did some testing and the attourney general made Mobil 1 stop making that claim. The thing that scared me was the little chart they had for the tests. According to their test, Amsoil rated #1 and Mobil 1 rated behind Pennzoil!!!
Back to the topic, I still use Mobil 1 and change every 3000 miles. I once went about 3750, but I spent half the time I was driving looking at the gauges.

Peace of mind for $4 per quart is well worth it in my mind

 

I use Amsoil.. It has been in there for about 6K+ miles now.. I am in no hurry to change it.. I dont forsee it damaging my engine. I will change it somewhere between 8K - 10K miles. For the extra $ ya spend may as well get the most out of it or just buy decent cheaper oil like a synth blend and change it more often. I personally think technology has come a long way and wont fret over it. Especially while I am under warranty.

Which reminds me.. I should order some more oil here soon..

The only thing I like about amsoil is that it is sent to my door the next day.. That beats going around town looking for it like I was doing with Mobil 1 and Royal Purple.

 

I can sell amsoil but dont.. Why? cause I cant prove that its better.. So I wont.. I just buy it wholesale for myself..

The reps seem to always have some piece of advertisement that they will seemingly believe wholeheartedly..
Even after I spoke with the reps that signed me up and told them that I found no horsepower gain at all, he still came back with I have many test results that will show a power gain.. I told the man that unless I see it for myself, you can write anything you want and that wont make me any more prone to believe it..

Its funny when someone is just focused on telling you what somone else told them to tell you.

Again, its all about your personal peace of mind.. I have more faith in the technology and feel that it wont be turning into sludge in my motor.. Especially this early on with just 14K miles on the clock.. I have only done 2 oil changes since I bought it new.. 1 at about 4500 using Mobil 1 and another at about 9K miles using amsoil.

 

In older cars I use regular old dino oil and change it every 5,000 miles. In my newer cars I use Amsoil and change it every 10,000. My rep insists I'm changing it too soon though. Do what you want.

Send a sample to an oil analysis lab. It'll cost you $15-20.
You are throwing money out the window if you're changing your full synthetics every 3k. Oil is self cleaning... burning off impurities, water, etc at full operating temperatures. The acidity increases with age but you'll never know when to change unless you test.
I run Mobil 1 in my 2000 Vette and my change intervals are 7500 miles. No guessing... just analysis to come to that conclusion. The oil is actually still good for maybe 1k after that but I consider it a safety margin.
My race engines use Royal Purple and are changed every other weekend. I perform analysis on these engines too... but that's to find something that might be going wrong before it actually does.
