The oil change light comes on independantly of whenever you changed your oil. Your car cannot accurately detect when the oil need to be changed. It just illuminates based upon time and miles.

It should always be reset when changing the oil. All this information and reset procedures can be found in the owners manual... But to reset it, turn the ignition to the run position (engine off), slowly press the gas pedal to the floor and let off 3 times within 5 seconds. Start the engine, and the system should be reset.

.. Turn the car on to BAT but don't start it. Hold your trip button for 18 seconds and it'll blink, then go away.

Doesn't matter which method that you use, they both work.

I do not agree.
Mine seems to know exactly when to come on. At times, it has been as little as 4500 miles and other times as much as 13K.

On my Cadillac the computer factors in driving conditions....speed/temperature of the engine and things like that to determine when the oil needs changed. So I would agree with you.
