Oil change light on during recent freeze

Hi everyone,
I had recently serviced my 2002 Z28 (stock). I change the oil every 3000 miles.(always synthetic) This happened in early December. Haven't put more than 500 miles since then. The oil I used was Mobil synth. The folks who changed the oil pressed the oil reset button because i noticed that the trip was back to 0.00.
The past couple of days it's been freezing out here in CT. Temperatures stayed in the range of 8-15 F. When I start up the car now...the oil change light comes on.
Just wanted to ask you folks if anyone has experienced such a condition. Would this go away when the weather is warmer. I have a feeling that the system finds the oil to be thicker in winter and "reads" it as dirty oil.

As always thanks for the help.
Kind Regards
Aby

did they reset the light correctly?

cycle the key from the "ON" position (not start), back to the accessory. Do this 3 times then push and hold the trip reset button till the oil change light flashes.

I always just turn the ignition to on, and then hold the trip button for about 10 secs and then the oil change light flashes and then everything is good.

They may not have dont it correctly when they reset it. I would reset it myself to make sure it was done correctly. Also, you should have problems using 10w30 in the winter. The engine will take either.

Re: Oil change light on during recent freeze

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for the replies. Well I'll just reset it myself and see how it goes. Can't believe that the oil change guys at a GM workshop wouldn't know how to reset it. Or maybe they just happened to miss it because that day they were quite busy.

I always used synthetic but i wasn't sure if they put in 10W30 or 5W30. I hope the 10W30 wouldn't hurt the engine in the winter.

Thanks again.
Kind Regards
Aby Philip

It shouldn't. But then again you do live in a very cold climate.
