Damn, I need to get me a magnetic drain plug Don't know where to buy one around here, though.

Q: why does everyone think it's normal to have metal pieces/flakes/dust coming out in your oil? that only means that a small part of your engine was just crapped out. Or is it normal for a newer engine to have some particles in it from the factory build, and later on none will show up at all? I can only imagine that if metal keeps coming out, you're going to have serious problems sooner down the line than you expected.

Hope I'm not intruding on your thread ChevyGuy but I'm sure some of this stuff you'd like to know as well..

crap there i go thinking without thinking first.. your right, it wouldnt have come from the intake.
maybe it is a chunk of steel that might have come from an oil filter? like some of the material they punched out of the top of it?

Aneurysm- not intruding at all! Any good info will be appreciated!
Your plug doesn't have a magnetic tip? All 3 of my Camaro's had a magnetic tip

Jerm93- Wouldn't that be great if it came from a filter... you never know, and it would be quite a relief.

ChevyGuy - Are you saying the Camaro comes standard with a magnetic drain plug? I did not know this! I guess you learn something from this board everyday. If your 99 came with a magnetic plug, then I'm 99% sure my 01 should have one too. Last time I changed the oil, I didn't know, So I didn't check the plug for metal. I'm going to next time though!
