o2 sensors same part # front and back?

Ok I am not sure if this is right maybe someone can help me out. I went to get new o2 sensors at checker, they told me the front left was the same as the rear left? I thought they done different jobs? Is this correct It feels like my car has no top end now and I wanted to check with you guys to see if they are right and start looking somewhere else. thanks for any help.

I've always thought 02's are interchangeable - could be wrong. Did you reset the PCM to clear any old codes? If so the PCM might just need some time to "relarn." Which sensor(s) did you change? If you're not getting an SES light the sensors should be working.

they do the "same job" just in different places.

both monitor the gas composition of the exhaust. just for different purposes. the fronts for adjusting the a/f and the rear for detecting problems with the cats.

seems like i heard the connector was different from front to back. but when i went to get new ones for my Z...they said they were the same as listed in the computer...but i wouldn't trust the guys at Advanced Auto anyway

They are a different part number, but are interchangeable. A friend advocates running the rear sensors in the front holes with long tubes to eliminate the ses light.

The only difference from the fronts and the rears is the length of the harness, otherwise they are exactly the same. The reason for different part numbers is, as I stated, the length of the harness. Running the rears in the front for performance is a placebo affect.
