O2 sensor interchangability

i know this was discussed months ago, don't feel like searching hundreds of threads on o2 sensors...

can you interchange the front and rear o2 sensors? i wanna see how the car runs with differnet sensors to see if it is affecting my performance, and since the rears have been off the car for a while, was thinking they may be in better shape.

just a thought

how much are new o2 sensors?

Re: O2 sensor interchangability

the sensors themselves are exactly the same for the front and rear...the onyl difference is that the front sensors have a longer wiring harness coming off of them....the rears WILL plug in and function correctly, but you may be stretching the wiring a little bit. i have longtubes and my rear o2 just barely made it when plugged into the front (driver side this is by the way i have no idea about the other side.) for testing purposes, it SHOULD work, but for long term use i would get new sensors if you find that you do actually have bad ones...

Re: O2 sensor interchangability

If ur talkin bout just the sensors u should be able to interchange them but if ur talkin bout the wiring harnesses then u need to have the front O2's plugged into the LT's. If u put the rear 02's into the LT's then ur gonna set off a code because the rear 02's stock should be getting a cleaner reading since they are after the cats on stock cars, don't think it'll run different or at least not anything noticeable i wouldn't think. It's more of a vehicle maintenance issue because if u set off codes stock and it was coming from the rear O2 then it would probably just mean u need a new cat because its blown out or cracked, etc.
I think new 02's cost about 80 but i could be wrong, either way as long as ur not setting off any codes i don't see a reason to change them because i'm pretty sure it doesn't affect performance.....could be wrong though?
