Noisy hydraulic lifters???
Hi all,
My car was in for a bit of a service yesterday and whilst there I asked them to investigate a rattle I've had for some time.
This is a rattle that makes itself known when slowing down through 1500 to 1000 rpm.
The garage said it's noisy hydraulic lifters. Does that sound feasible? Has anyone else had this problem? There doesn't seem to be any loss of power or response.
If the lifters have to be replaced I'm going to try and get this done on warranty.
Another question I have is does anyone know if the SLP Head & Cam package comes with all the bits including lifters? If so it would seem like a reduced labour job to replace everything in one go and get one hell of a performance boost in the deal.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.
Thanks
Gary

I feel like my car (engine) has a "rattle" sound that is separate from the piston slap...............I've often thought it may be lifters too
, but it doesn't seem to be affecting anything?!
In terms of the heads/cam package, while I don't know about that specific SLP package, what I do know is that you can't install a cam with used lifters --- it won't last! --- so it would have to come with new lifters

My car has what I think is a loud lifter noise also. It isn't hurting anything that I can see so I'm not too worried about it. It is different than piston slap. It only happens when I first start the car for about 1 min. Then it goes away, it does not matter if the motor was hot or cold. I can still hear the piston slap barely if it is cold though. It is a 2002 z28.
Also, you do not have to replace the lifters to change the cam. Look at one of the many install directions floating around and none of them mention changing the lifters. In fact most go into detail about how to do the install with the lifters in place (pen magnets etc.)
I have heard of dealers installing aftermarket heads and cam during warrenty work but I don't think it is too common. If you get them to, GREAT! I am sure you would be happy witht the power increase. Good luck
