Brake rotors
Well I got my new "used" car last Saturday. However, a squeekie brake sends me on a trip to Mitas to replace the pad...i know i'm lazy. However, as it turns out the previous owner of my car has managed to warp the two of the rotors with only 21k on the car!? I'm a little concerned but it may have just been grandmom laying on the brakes. Anyways, does anyone have input on where to get some new drilled rotors for cheap for a 2000 Camaro SS? Thanks
Mine were really warped when I got my car. I replaced the front rotors with some cheap replacements from Autozone and they have held up well. But there is still some "jerking" when I brake so I might have to replace the rear ones too.
If they warp again I will get some powerslot rotors.

GeekSS, Raybestos makes a crossdrilled slotted rotor for about $100,I priced them @ a racer parts store when I did mine awhile ago.I didnt get'em I got the regular Raybestos rotors.Maybe I'll try those next time they go bad if they do.
Ferocity02 do you remember when you had the caliper off.If the binder slid freely on the binder bracket. The aluminum binder and bracket its attached to...the bracket connects it to the spindle.the binder is supposed to slide back&forth on that bracket. If the pins are seized/not sliding it would still do that jerkin even after new rotors.you are suppose to grease the pins inside the caliper to prevent this. The pins I'm talking about are on both ends of caliper little rubber grommit/boot goes around the pin connects to binder and bracket to keep grease in,like a 10mm bolt holds them in.When seized this makes it tough to get the caliper on after new pads/rotors,and once you do get it on you can barely turn the rotor cuz one side is pressing hard on it,cuz of no give in the bracket pins. Just a thought

We're offering 10% off all our '93-02 kits for May, including our Short Stop... slotted rotor kits. You get stock size slotted rotors (don't crack like drilled ones), and high performance pads.
4 wheel kit for 94-97 cars is $475 minus 10%.
4 wheel kit for 98-02 cars is $629 minus 10%.
Check our website for more info!

go eradispeed or stick with oem, i've heard of nothing other than people simply warping their powerslots etc... that or you could just eaze off the brakes
FYI i have a set of napa rotors that seem to hold up a bit better than the stockies did.

Ok i need to know this first hand!
I have 5100 on my car.. and my rotors are madly warped already. I wanna get slotted, do they eat up brake pads faster? how fast do the rotors warp on them since they are expensive? Thanks.
Sorry didn't mean to steal thread.

No, slotted rotors do not eat pads faster. And they do not warp very fast since the slots help keep them cool. Of course, if you slot a cheap rotor, then it's still a cheap rotor and it may indeed warp relatively fast. We don't drill our rotors since drilling cause stress fractures in the rotors, shortening it's life span.

There's also a possibility that the rotors are not warped, but simply there is an uneven deposit of brake pad material on the rotors. This can cause the pulsing feeling..
the slots and holes are suppse to let gasses escape from the pads.. and maybe cool off the rotor a bit.. I don't think street pads make any gasses..
the slots and holes are suppose to be chamfered, so they don't cut into the pads..
You also get a lighter rotor.. but then again, you also want mass to soak up the heat if your really stressing your brakes out that much.. some things to think and weigh in..
That said, I had the "warped" feelign in my brakes after 11000 miles (I suspect my the service people at the dealer went on a short joyride) So I bought KVR front blanks, front Hawk HPS pads, went to installuniversity, and did the fronts out myself. 30,000 miles of fun driving, a few drag racing, and some autox, they work just fine..
I'd probably use Autozone rotors next time, since they are cheaper.....
I have a bracket coming in soon that will allow me to use the C5 rotor (12.8") and the C5 caliper (similar design, but stronger caliper design and slightly bigger pads)

a reason for warped rotors could be due to not torqing the lug nut to specification. i would tend to believe that quality has something to do with the rotors warping but i lean more toward operator malfunction like tightening the lugs too tight. i torque the lugs to 95/100 lbs in a star pattern so there is not any one lug being tightened unevenly. as already mentioned by a few others, i like eradispeed and raybestos brakes.
I am takin it back to see if they cover it from warrenty cuz it has been only 5 grand.. and its really really bad. BUt i wanna save 400 bucks so i can get slotted rotors, A they look better, and B i am getting the hint they are better then the solids. This is just my daily driver. Prob will never see autocross and maybe a few times down the track after headers / Exhaust. Thanks fo the info guys.
If the dealer won't help you, call Mark at SSBC. I had the LT1 kit on a 97 it was great. They were still going strong at 40K when the car was destroyed. When it is time for brakes on the 2002, Mark is getting the call. It will be hard to find a quality four disc set w/pads any cheaper than the SSBC deal.
I don't know how good the Powerstop rotors from http://www.jegs.com are but cross drilled for $ 100 each... Maybe someone can answer are these worth it..

I am thinking of getting a set of these when I go to replace my brake pads and rotors... Are they any good ??
