Noise in a Turn
I am wondering if anyone has had a prob. with a clicking or ticking noise in a turn especially at low speeds like 30 MPH or so.... I have a 2000 TA and have a clicking noise comming from underneath the car. I took it to the dealer and they changed the oil in the rear but the noise is still there. The dealer is trying to tell me tht this is normal. I know this is not but would like to know what is causing this. any info can help. I am due to take it back so a manager can take a listen.... and if he tells me this is normal than that will be the last time i go to that dealer.
i have a 2000 SS and have noticed this noise also at low speeds on a turn. i just put exhaust on the car and thouht it was banging or rubbing but it is not. it hit hard sometimes in the car, almost likethe driveshaft is banging but i dont think this is the problem. i am starting to be a little worried. it does not happen all the time. anyone else????
I'm not exactlly sure what kind of sound your hearing but its mostlikelly caused by body role. I bet if you add a strut tower brace, subframe connector (weld-on), and if you got the dow get some sway bars. It is fairly commin' if its what I think it is. I hope this helps
like a clicking almost
I have that but only hear it while turning right indoors at my parking garage, slow speeds. I thought it was something stuck inside the tire or tires that I could'nt see and making a clicking sound on the garage floor...at least I was hoping thats all it is..
It's "normal" ....
Let me guess ... you notice it more often on slow left hand turns, especially when turning and decellerating at the same time. Am I close?
What you are hearing is the clutch packs in the Torsen rear. I complained about this a LOT when I had the Z28. I took it all the way to GM corporate and Torsen. A Torsen engineer assured me that this was not hurting the car in any way.
I posted his response a long time ago (probably 6 - 8 months ago).

As rncotton says. it is normal on the Torsen rear end to get this noise. Sounds like a clunk-clunk-clink noise. Often described as "dice in the trunk" noise. It happens with the differential when a light load is put on it only.

Well I dont like it it really bugs me and seems to be getting louder... becides I have a vibration at 60 MPH it is back at the dealer they are going to check it out again... I wish i knew someone else with the same noise so I could hear it... I would feel more relieved... but my friend has a 2002 WS6 and his does not make the noise.... is this with the M6 as well? or just with the A4
My M6 doesn't do it at all. The A4 with 2.73 gears in the rear did it all the time.
I think it's a rear diff. gearing thing rather than an M6 vs A4 thing. But M6 is always 3.42 where the A4 is 2.73 or 3.23. I've heard of people putting 3.42 or 3.72 in their A4 and the noise going away.

FWIW, I have a vibration right at 50 mph in 3rd gear, though unrelated.
