No Power Steering????

First off, there is nothing wrong with my power steering lol. I was reading an old article about a 99' SS that GM high tech modded out and gave track times and dyno #'s for each mod that they did. I know that when there were running an 11.7, they switched to a belt that bypassed the power steering pump all together and it netted them an 11.4 plus 2 more miles per hour I believe.

I picked up a shorter belt the other night from Autozone and it fits just right bypassing the power steering pump.

NO I'M NOT GOING TO DRIVE AROUND NORMALLY WITHOUT POWER STEERING.

However, it takes me all of about 3 minutes to change the belts and it would be something I do while my car is at the track.

Do you guys think this will actually work and gain me a couple tenths? Is this cheating? lol.

I know I can't complain about the #'s I am already running, but I wanna go faster, and being the college student that I am, money is tight right now.

Just wondering if you guys think this will work.

It ain't gonna hurt.

I dunno about three tenths and two MPH though...that seems a little too good for just bypassing one pulley.

My friend used to run a short belt on his Z but I'm not sure what kinda gains he got from that alone. Again though, it isn't going to slow you down.

It will give you some gains. And as far as being cheating........as long as you state that you ran your numbers with that mod it's cool.
If you read a lot of guys sigs they'll state short belt.

I'll get back to you tomorrow on the size of the belt...I'm heading out to the bar in a few, don't have time to look for the size of it. Check this thread tomorrow.
