no oil in top of motor
no oil in top of motor
i have an 00 ws6 and i have no oil getting to the top of the motor. i have taken valve covers off and made sure. i have pressure on the gauge for whateverthats worth on an ls1, but some say on o ring on the oil pump some have gone to say even i cracked my block but an all stock motor usually not likely. there is no smoke no bottom end noise just the rockers. it drives fine. im lost here maybe a true mechanic can narrow this down for me. i need help!!! thanks frankie
Re: no oil in top of motor
I'll take a crack at it...what's your oil pressure at idle and under RPM increase?
Have you checked under the VC's when the vehicle is running? Not EXACTLY sure w/ LS1's, I'm going on basic engine lube theroy..The top half of the motor (Valve springs, rockers etc.) is feed oil from the oil galley that supplies pressure to the lifters. it travels up the pushrods, and is 'sprayed' or squirted out of the top of the knuckle on the rocker arm, where the pushrod contacts the RA. It pulses whenever the valve is opened, I think. The oil also helps cool the valve stems and other parts of the upper engine.
Obviously, when the engine is off, there's no oil flowing..

Re: no oil in top of motor
well i ran my motor with valve cover off it still didnt get any pressure and gm is telling me that th oil pump actually pumps to the heads first and pressure at idle is normal 40 and rev it up it goes up (oil pressure) some say it might be a gasket not sure which one but if that helps let me know what ya think thanks frankie
