Newbie LS1 questions

I'm in the market in getting a 4th gen Camaro and found a 98 from a good friend. I don't know anything on a LS1.

I know that the 98's are the first gen to have the LS1 powertrain.....so is it worth it to get a 98? There is a few 00 and 02 that I can get for a few thousand more.

Is it that same from a 98-02's?

Also any body changes from the 98-02's?

Could I make a 98 look like a 02 SS by changing the hood and spoiler and with the SS badges?

Cool

Actually..., 1997 was the first year for LS1. In the C5, though.

98-00 are pretty much the same, except the 98's had bigger injectors (I think), but power wise they are the same.

01-02's have a different cam and LS6 intake and therefore make a bit more hp.

No body changes for 98-02.

Sure, you can make any Camaro look like an SS by doing the things you mentioned.

Putting the SS badges on a regular Camaro is a bit touchy issue with many, though... I wouldn't do that, but what ever floats your boat.

Happy hunting! Let us know what you buy.

Thanks for the info but keep it comming....

Sorry I don't want to offend anyone with putting SS badges on a Z28 but actually I love the hood on the SS and would probally just do the hood and not the spolier.

Would it look weird with a SS hood and not the spoiler?

Theres more to the SS then the hood and spoiler a lot of people here just call it a appearance package, but most people look over its suspension.

No a SS hood wouldn't look weird with out the spoiler.

If I'm ever going to do any major exterior modifications (except for rims and tires), the SS hood and spoiler are the only ones, so I know what you mean.

No SS badges, though.

Hood without spoiler? Hmmm... I think I've Never seen one like that so hard to say... I think you could get used to it.

I think the SS hood and spoiler make the car look
better too, which is why I bought one.
It might just be cheaper to buy one considering
cost of parts, paint, labor.

Regardless if you do put them on, what's wrong
with having a Z28, why change that badges and
make it something it isn't. That's perpatrating and
IMO ruin a sweet car. You'd also need to buy SS
wheels and tires for a match cause that would be
a dead giveaway. Once you add it up, buying an
SS outright is cheaper.
