New tranny for 02 LS1
GM now builds a 4L65E instead of the regular 4L60E.........apparently it comes in Avalanches or something?
Regardless, I read an article in a magazine about them, and they're pretty much a 4L60E with upgraded internals, such as stronger input and output shafts, heavier duty clutch packs, and stronger planetary gears (or whatever the heck are used inside automatics?!
). I'm sure that you could just build up a 60 to what the 65 is, but to save the trouble, you can simply buy a 4L65E and be done with it
.

Are there any race transmissions or anything like that out there specifically for the LS1?
I'll be pushing close to 420 rwhp and need something that can handle that kind of power. I don't think the stock tranny can handle that.

I went through 6 4L60E's so I know they are junk.. Ya can go TH350 or 400 and be done with it. .but ya will have a manual valve body most likely..
Get it done right tho.. no sense in wasting $ on a motor that cant be used..

I have over 500 passes on my stock one with 200 of those passes with a high stall and slicks. Oh and that's pulling 1.64-1.75 sixty foots and running low 12s at 110 plus. Not junk.
Many companys build 4l60e transmissions that claim 500-650 hp capabilities. But I can't and won't recommend any because I have no personal experience yet.
Check out the vendor index. Speed Inc and some other supporting vendors have built transmissions for sale.

These should help or give you an idea of what is out there.

the harsh hits on the tranny are on thing.. the repeated 140+mph runs with 110+ sustained for over 35 min at a time... daily.. (to and from work) not the same thing... and thats what was killing my trannys.. And yes, I had a cooler on it too..
