new to the ls1 scene....
I have recently purchased a 2000 Z28 convertible and was looking into headers and noticed slp headers wont fit on convertibles... Are the slp's the only ones or is there more than that that wont fit? and is pacesetter the best bang for the buck like it is with the LT1s?
I have the coated Pacesetter long tubes and y-pipe and I absolutely love it. Sound is great, strong performance, absolutely no clearance issues. IMO, they are the best bang for your buck.
You will see a little bit better performance and hear a nice tone out of the Kooks, but they are considerably more expensive.
You get what you pay for, but there are some good values out there as well.

It's really easy to go out and buy some boltons, a little of this and a little of that and find out later that half of what you bought has to be sold and another part bought to really work the best. A handheld is only the right way to go for a narrow set of circumstances, for other scenarios a mail order tune might work better or a full on dyno tune.
So my advise is to read back in this forum a couple of months worth of posts. Formulate a plan and goals for your car then research the parts that will work together to achieve that goal. And SLP package deals are almost never the best route to go.
I'm not setting to big of goals. This is going to be my daily driver so im just looking to get a little meaner sounding exhaust and better intake. I looked at cams but doubt I go there for a few years. I have my LT1 firebird for going fast. This car is the dd/cruising car. The most for now is full exhaust and air intake components and a good tune. I just needs to keep up with my LT1 camaro that I'm trying to sell. It ran a fast time of 8.75 on the 1/8th in cold weather.
For the intake go SSRA and any lid with a fresh paper filter.
For headers there are many choices, like I said before, research.
Catback choice will depend on whether you dump the cats or not. Catbacks that sound good with cats can suck without them.
If your new car is an auto then I highly suggest a good 3500-3600 rpm stall torque converter. You'll hardly notice that it's there for daily driving and you'll mop up your ''drag'' car easily.

Welcome aboard, and as I'm sure you're probably aware the LS1 is a great powerplant and you have MANY options for different parts! You'll learn quite a bit of this forum.... it's an excellent source of imformation!
Kooks headers have excellent fitment on these cars, they're a brand we highly recommened for almost ANY header application. They're a little pricier than most, but you do definitely get what you pay for..... which is a quality 304 stainless steel header that will last. They'll produce a little more power than the Pacesetter headers and SLP headers as well. Nothing too significant, but the power is there all throughout the curve.
We're currently offering a free header coating promotion when forum members buy Kooks headers with the connection pipes. They are pretty much the highest quality coatings on the market that we offer free with your Kooks purchase. If you want to save a few bucks though we can sell you uncoated Kooks at a pretty good discounted price, but we can't give that pricing out in writing (due to minimum advertised pricing policies) so you would have to call us for that.
Our company is very big in the LS1 market (and we're a sponsor) and we can answer many questions that you can throw at us about parts for your car. Check out our selection of headers below and if oyu have ANY questions at all feel free to call us and let us know what we can do for you. We're here from 9AM-6PM Eastern and would be glad to answer any questions that you may have! 443-730-9428

Yea, I have Kook's headers, too, FWIW. Best in the biz. Just make sure when you order chassis and exhaust mods you tell people you have a vert. Fist mod I would do, too, would be some BMR weld-in SFC's. Those convertibles are pretty loose, even with the factory bracing.

And my personal preferance for LS1 cars is Yank too.
I like Automatics especially for drag racing but for the street the 6 speed is for me.I have yet to be in a LS1 Camaro, but its the car that I think will fit my needs when I sell my 69 Camaro 396 car.I just wanted something alot less profile that I could drive and get much better gas mileage and similar or better performance. When it comes to performance car's I never leave it stock but i heard a 4.10 Gear in a 98-02 LS1 Camaro is quite tame especially with the 6 speed.

Have you ever made a post without saying this exact same thing? Ur alleged "402 big block" sounds pretty "tame" to me.
A nice stall is a good mod especially if you plan on hitting the strip even with a remotely stock setup. I've never had an auto LS1, so I'm not sure what the ideal. I would think 2800-3200 range would be good.
The Kooks headers produce the best tone of all the LS1 headers IMO, definitely a quality product if its in your price range.
has anyone had any dealings with the texas-speed parts or just the store in general? I was looking and their headers and true dual setup but it looks to me like it wont have the best ground clearance even on my stock ride height car.
