new car help please....?
im looking to buy a 2000 ss and i wanted some input on what i should look for such as common problems. also the guy put a short throw shifter in and now it wont shift into third but shifts through the others with ease. could this be a major problem or an easy fix? i am going to look at it tomorrow and try to work out a deal so any input is very appreciated!
Check the windshield for distortions by moving up and down in the seat.
Check for slop in the rear axle/driveshaft by gently pushing/letting off gas in gear.
Doors should shut solid.
Drivers window rolls up and down more then once?
Cold start, listen for noises/knocks
Warmed up listen for noises/knocks - pay attention to water pump/pulleys.
Not familar enough with the manual cars to say, but it COULD be major, did it
stop going into 3rd due to the shifter install? Have him put the stock shifter
back in and see if that cures it.

Well.. then it sounds like something broke, or came out of adjustment. I read
that originally as he put on a new shifter and THEN it wouldnt go into 3rd. It
could be something serious - IE trans rebuild.
Might have a mechanic check it out first. Unless the price is REALLY good.
