There are more people with Z28s then SSs. More people own Z28s and are going to recommend them. I think the SS is worth the money.

Performance-wise, the LS1 Z28 and SSs are pretty close.

The Z28 will be cheaper, and it's essentially the same car as the SS. The visual differences are the SS has a taller spoiler, the special hood, 17" rims, and the SS badges.

SSs will be worth more money than Z28s mainly due to their exclusivity, but if you're strictly concerned with performance, just buy a Z28 and mod it, it won't take much to overtake a stock SS. As for insurance, I'm sure they're the same because on my card it says Z28/SS.

They're both great cars that don't disappoint.

Here is a quote from "codyman 16" if it helps ...

"Hey everyone, I am extremely exited right now i just got through trading in my 98 v6 camaro and bought a 2002 black ss 6 speed with crome 17 inch rims. I absolutly love this car. I also test drove a 2002 z28. I gotta say the ss is worth the extra money. I could tell a difference in power and sound. the ss was more tuned sounding but the z had a sweet sounding roar. I also liked the ss suspension better. btw both cars had identicle options. I also the the hurst short shifter it comes with. much shorter throw than my dads vette. Both of our cars feel alot alike in power.
Thanks for reading i am so glad i traded the v6 for the ls1. What a difference! btw i am going to keep this car completely original."

id go for the ss because then you dont have to worry about appearance mods right away. im thinkin best bang for the buck mods would be an airbox lid and a cutout and a short throw shifter, thats a must have. then id go for all the suspension mods.
