Exclamation Need some more horsepower...help!

I have a '98 Z (check sign. for mods.) and I'm purchasing a SLP lid w/ KN air filter, new plugs and wires, and a shock tower brace.
I know this will add some horsepower but what can I do after that?
Would getting a cutout be a good idea?
Maybe running without any cats....if some how do I do this?
Also, I'm not ready for a cam yet, my car is an everyday driver and I don't have time to put one in or have it done. I guess I just want bolt-ons.
One more question..with my new additions, what kind of hp gains I'm I looking at?
Thanks.

The mods you have in mind are almost a must. As far as the cats are concerned, gutting mine gave me a little more power and an even throatier sound as well. One thing I'd recommend is the low temp thermostat, it's farely inexpensive and worth the money. If your car's and automatic and if you can save up, I'd say by far the best thing you could do is upgrade your torque converter. I know this isn't really a bolt-on, but it will totally change your car. You can look at my sig for all my mods. The Vigilante was about the only thing that I could really "feel" the added HP from. My car is also my daily driver.

It's a free mod!
http://ls1info.com/article.php?sid=180
The lid and all the free mods should be next.
Then the only place to go from there is a set of Hooker LTs.
A converter if you have an A4, a 4.11 gear if you have an M6.
Along with the free t-stat mod, install an automatic fan switch on you car as one mod does little without the other. This mod is not free, but it is only about $20.
Good luck,
Dave

Re-read that article goofy, it's not "FREE." It is however inexpensive...just like I said.

Okay...
Where's this "goofy" **** coming from?
Did I attack you? I thought you were refering to one of the aftermarket t-stats. If I was mistaken, I'm sorry.
Also, I didn't spend any money on this mod. Just dropped in the shim and poured the coolant back in the car when it was back together.
Next time you post about the free t-stat mod, say "t-stat mod", don't say "buy a low temp thermostat"... they mean two different things newbie.

If I go with the long tube headers from stock headers, will I need a whole new exhaust set up? I mean a custom y-pipe?

Youll need a new Y yes, but most of the favorite headers (FLP, TTS, SLP, and Hooker) have y pipes either included or available.

Get a lid....95 dollars and you will get 10-15 HP, half the gain of long tubes for under 100$$$$. It will como\pliment your FRA well, too!

You never stated if you had a M6 or auto, so if it is an M6 go with an aftermarket shifter such as the B&M Ripper, Pro 5.0, Lou's, etc. As you up the ponies, a nice set of subframes would be a good choice.

I have an auto. And I really don't want to go with a larger gear or a stall converter yet. Maybe when I'm a little older and the car becomes a weekend driver!
Thanks.

Cool

You could go with a 2800 stall Vigilante, and it would be very streetable. You can shave off .4-.5 in the 1/4 consistently, and it will still be very reliable for you. That will give you the best gain of all the bolt-ons out there for an A4.

As for headers, I really like the FLP kit. It comes with longtube headers, complete y-pipe, and interchangable off-road pipes and hi-flow catalytic converters. That's the awesome part with the FLP's: you can swap the cats out for the off-road pipes whenever you feel like it. The headers and y-pipe have been ceramic coated as well, so they look great, too. We carry them here at L.G., so feel free to give me a call if I can get a set coming to ya!
