Need some LS1 SS help

Hey guys I never really post her but my friend Steph is looking for a LS1 SS. She found this ad, I thought it sounded a bit fishy to me (did SS's have 2.73's and 235 tires?) Tell me what you think of the car b/c it doesn't sound to me like this is a true SS but then again I don't know much about SS's.

thanks,
Mark

The car in the picture is a true ss. but i don't think that car matches the description. The picture shows ss wheels and such. But the description shows z28 rims. As far as the gears it is fine. The auto ss did come with that 2.73 ratio or the 3.23 depending on the options.

3.23s were standard on the automatic SSs. The decription could just be wrong. That is a SS hood and wheels, but thats all you can see in the pic. The sure way to see if it's an SS is to look for the rpo code WU8. On the drivers door inside the door jam is where the RPO codes are.

Looks to me like the guy selling just looked up a Z28 description quoting it word for work and didn't know to change the things that are included in the SS package.

I would not look at the car, it sounds like a scam. I have never heard of an SS with 16" wheels and the tires are for like the V6 Camaro I think? I would keep searching.

Exclamation

Like said before, sounds like somebody just copy/pasted the description of a base Z28.

The only way to make sure is to head on out there and check the RPO codes. Or if the distance is a problem, have them send you a picture of the sticker.

Simple as that.

Look for the RPO. The car might be fine. The guy that wrote that ad, on the other hand, is a complete idiot. "computer selected springs", "special black roof treatment", "composite reflector optic headlamps" and the liost goes on. This guy is just trying to hype the car. This is one of my biggest pet peeves about used car sales people. If you don't know something just say so and offer to find out but don't make stuff up. It just makes you look like a bigger moron.

That stuff isn't made up. Go find a Camaro brochure from GM. They pay guys big bucks to come up with those flowery terms.
His ad is a cut and paste form GM.

I don't think the 3.23's are STANDARD on the SS A4's. Some do have the 2.73's. I just can't imagine someone saying, "Can I switch to the 2.73's, cuz I don't like the performance package with the 3.23's." I think the 2.73 is standard for any LS1 A4, because the performance package option (which most have) comes with the 3.23's.

But the SS package for the A4 cars specifies "performance axle".

??

But I know a few guys that have A4 SS with 2.73's. Why don't they have the performance axle if it is specified?
