Need to replace fuel pump............

Got a 98 Z28 and need to replace the fuel pump. What has to be removed to get the fuel tank out?

Any info appreciated.

Two options.

1) Drop the rear suspension and tank

2) Cut a hole in the top of the back deck and removed from the top.

Ended up cutting a hole in the deck. I tried this on a older f body and found the pump had ridgid lines all the way down the outside of the tank. I didn't realize you caould do it on the newer ones.

Thanks for the help.

Id get a chiltons, and drop the tank. cutting anything on my baby doesnt ever sound good. Go to the library and get a manual on a 4th gen, and it should be relatively the same. If you get a book on a 94-97 f-body, theres no carbon canister in back, and a couple other differences i believe. Try doing a search on here and ls1tech to see if theres any instructions on how to drop the tank. might as well go a bit bigger with the pump too. maybe a walbro or soemthing, its a direct replacement i think...like 140 bucks or so.

Don't mind cutting a hole in mine. I used to be a sheet metal mechanic at an airline so sheetmetal work is second nature to me.

That and the fact the car isn't a show car, just my everyday driver. So the less time it's off the road the better.

To each their own.

Thats cool, i didnt know you were an expert. I would still think about replacing the it with an aftermarket piece. How much is a stock fuel pump? at least 100 id imagine, and the aftermarket ones can be had for not much more.
