Post Need Quick Answer On Brake Problem

The spousal unit just called from the Interstate. She had to panic stop her '00 SS and now she's lost her power steering. Fluid checks fine. Something with ABS/ASR perhaps? Any ideas?

Check the power steering pump belt it may have broke or come off. If it is a 6 speed manual the sudden lock up of the rear wheels would also stall the engine if the clutch wasnt pushed in. This might have snapped the belt. Just a theory

With a serpentine belt that drives everything she would lose the alternator and water pump. The car would run til the battery went dead and it will over heat fast!. If it was me and the belt was broke and I was in a bad location I might drive it minumum distance. If she is not scared of her surroundings have her call the 1800 road service number and they will send a tow truck. did she open the hood and look for the belt?

She made it to a Chevy dealer so they tell her what's wrong.

Thanks for the quick answers.

what I should have said is she will lose everything including the power steering pump and all the others I mentioned. The 1800 number is in the owners manual I think

FYI, The dealership looked at it and the power steering shaft broke. The dealer told her that this was the third one they have seen in as many weeks.

Does anyone know if there is a recall on this?
