The Comp Rs had extreme problems for a while. Hopefully yours are the older ones.

As you said with the Futral cams, I think that a lot of the problems with the Rs was improper valve preload. They can't take more than a few thousanths of preload so that means adjustable rockers. Many were installing them with stock rockers.
Mine have lasted thru 2 racing seasons so far (149 passes) and are heading into a new season shortly.
