Need help installing Cruise control..

I bought some cruise control modules off other LS1 cars (my car was a factory stripper and didnt come with power group so no CC..)
I need to know where this box mounts up (under the car?)
and from there I will add the turnstalk and a the other items and see what happens.. hahaha

any help is always appreciated..

Re: Need help installing Cruise control..

Assuming you don't have the traction control, the cruise cable runs from the throttle body back, along the underside of the cowl with the throttle cable, then down the inner fender to the cruise servo which is screwed onto the outside of the box section that runs forward to the bumper support, underneath the headlamp. The module and servo are together. Beyond that, there's only the switch(es) in the pedal box and the stalk.

Re: Need help installing Cruise control..

Ok.. did it all.. total install took about 1.5 hours for someone who never ever installed it..
Tools:
1 phillips screw driver
1 10 mm socket
1 8mm socket

First the parts:
* Cruise control servo module (CCM) and its mounting bracket with 3 screws (2 - 10mm 1-8mm).
* Cruise control console stalk
* 2 pedal switches (brake and clutch)

For those of us with stripper cars - the wiring is already there for you. It really is plug and play.. haha

Ok. here is my how to:
1. remove the plastic underbody panel under the front drivers side headlamps. 10mm socket works great and I think it was 10 total bolts.. You have to bend part of the air dam to get the plastic cover off. There is also one metal clip that holds it on and you just need to pull and it will slide out of it.

2. You can now locate the PCM connector just sitting freely. Plug it into your CCM and align the screw holes and start bolting it all up. One of the bolts goes behind an exhisting unit so the area is quite tight. I used my air ratchet to get that one finished up. Once they are all snug, you can see where you can route the 68" CC cable. It naturally flows up the wheel well into the engine bay.. You can plainly see the other cables and such that it will go near so it doesnt get pinched or burned by anything..

3. There are a couple of fixed mounting areas on the cable. The first one is a pronged unit that goes just under a couple of fuel lines (?) on the wheel well in the engine bay.. (its the only hole it will fit in nearby)

4. Continuing past the steering column you will come to a mouning clip on the cable, I found an area under the cowl that fits in perfectly for the mounting clip, the cable can then run along the cowl and then come up next to the throttle cable and attach at its proper location the bracket next to the throttle cable.

5. Put everything back together, the engine part is done..

6. Here I removed both of the plastic panels under the dash on the drivers side.. with them out of the way and some lighting I was able to track down one loose cable with the same color wires as the switch. Mine were black and purpleish. plug it into the larger pedal switch.. The smaller pedal switch with the black plunger will replace the existing pedal switch with with black plunger.(This is the clutch if I remember correctly..) This goes fairly easy and the only thing you need to do is count the threads showing and make sure you have adjusted your replacement units accordingly..

7.On the other switch.. I found it easier to remove the existing switch, set it aside and then install the CC Switch in its mounting bracket above. I unplugged it to adjust it by turning the whole switch unit until it would let the button be depressed yet would not put stress on the button housing (plunger.. its the same thing).. Reinstall the lower switch..

8. Replace plastic panels under dash.

9. Remove plastic cover on left turn stalk. It just needs a little coaxing. .no tools were needed.. just moderate pressure and pulling away from the steering wheel.

10. Hold stalk firmly and pull away from column. The turn stalk should just pull out. Insert your new stalk and test. It should feel like you are doing something.. otherwise the wiper units arent aligned and just fiddle with it to get it to engage..
next take the cable and plug it into the top of the existing harness (was light blue on my car. There are cables going into the bottom of the harness and the turn stalk will connect to the top of it)

11. Replace cover.. Start car and go play!! CC should now be functional!
