need help figuring out what gears i have???

i have a 2000 a4 and the codes on the drivers door are smudged and the one in the glove box is gone. in 4th gear at 75mph i am running about 1800-1900rpm. i think it is probably 2.73's??

that sounds about right. cuz i have the 3.23's and at 75 i'm like 22-2300 rpms. i can't remember if there's an axle tag on these or not that say what the ratio is. hope this helps.

Re: need help figuring out what gears i have???

are the ls1s like the lt1s in which the shifter will tell the answer?

i know if you could select 1st gear on the shifter, it had the 3.23gears, if there was no 1st listed it was only the 2.73s

not sure if that applies to the ls1

Sounds like you have 2.73's !! Put some 3.42's or 3.73's in there and wake up the sleeping beast!!

Re: need help figuring out what gears i have???

i also have an a4 and at 70mph i'm at 1700-1800 rpm's. i have 2:73's. on your drivers door if you see a sticker with codes, the gear code is GU2 for 2:73's and GU5 for 3:23's. my advice is traction first, then gears. (lca's, panh, sfc.also drag radials). now get out there and kick some asphault!
