Need help fast with mom's car
OK guys this is a general question on a 95 Oldsmobile Cutlass SL. I know its not an LT1, but I trust you all. I don't know where else to go and we need help fast. Here we go....
My mother lives in S. FLA and they have been getting pelted by rain for almost a week straight. Obviously as much as we all know to avoid puddles, with that much rain 6in puddles on the ground, its gonna happen sooner or later. Last night she got home and shut the car off, a few things happened that shouldn't have. First the car continued to run for a couple of minutes, but very poorly (this is with the key out!) all of her dash gauges were dimmly lit and her reverse lights were stuck on. If she turns the key on it runs fine. She took it to a mechanic (trusted mechanic), that has told her that her neutral safety switch is bad and that this is what is causing her all this trouble. I'm no fool and I honestly think that this has nothing to do with the problem. Obviously something has gotten wet.....
So the main question is what can get wet/short out and cause the gauges to light up and car to continue running poorly for a few minutes then shut off? I personally think that her ECU has gotten wet, now weither or not this will dry out and go away, you've got me.
Thanks so much for the help guys as my mom works out of her car and can't afford to miss too many days of work (RAIN or shine)

The neutral safety switch serves only to prevent the car from starting in any gear other than Park or Neutral.
Look under the car - maybe a ground strap got broken or came loose ?
Just a random thought.
Not to discourage you, but electrical gremlins can be a real beeattch.
Good Luck !
