Question Need help with clutch choice.

I have a 99 Z M6 with a Loudmouth exhaust. I plan on only getting intake,410 gears, and getting the thing reprogrammed. I don't plan on making anything over 340 horsepower if that. I have a feeling that my clutch is going to go out soon and I was wondering what a good clutch would be. I want something that has some performance but nothing too extreme. Oh yeah I also am getting a short throw shifter if that means anything. Also where can I get this clutch and for how much???

Don't know if this helps, but ...

My brother has a CenterForce on his SS and it's nice because it can hold down a ton of horsepower, but it's hard as hell to push down and it gives a little resistance when you're shifting at high RPMs (like at the track).

So ... there's my vote against the CenterForce for what you'll be needing.

On my A4 to M6 conversion, I'm using the Star- Spec clutch.

I do road racing & expect future RWHP of over 400, so I got the Stage-3 unit. You'd be fine with the stage-2.

I'd also consider an aluminum flywheel. Either theirs or a different one. I've seen them as low as $350 or so.

For the shifter, don't bother wasting $$ on a shifter assembly. Just get a short stick like Lou's Short Stick or the Quick Stick

I have a Spec Stage III in mine and absolutely LOVE it. It handles 4000 and 5000 launches on DRs and drags.

But my next one I plan on getting a McLeod Twin Disk. To handle my nefarious habits and SERIOUS power.

Adam

EDIT: As for shifter get something the stocker is crap on 2-3 shifts.

Stage 3?????

Isn't the stage 3 clutch a little too much for my future mods. What exactly does the stage 3 mean and is it a lot better than the stock one? I am confused!!!

Ceramic disks have been known to eat up fly wheels.

i have star stage 3 ceramic.
it is great.
would recommend it again.
use your stock flywheel and get both sides of your flywheel cut.
update your hydraulics (new slave and master if you have an older car and do the drill mod to the master).

Our cars are to heavy to use a alumium flywheel. Billet steel is what you are going to want for such a heavy car. Why in the world would you blow out your clutch on a near stock car? I still have a stock clutch and I have alot more then you do plus I am pushing a good bit over 400hp. Drive it normal and you won't have a problem for a while.

The only reason I wouldn't recommend the stage-3 is if you do a lot of stop & go driving. Since you can't slip it in & out... it gets kinda rough in a long stop & go.

Otherwise, it's GREAT

I got the Z06 clutch in my car about 6 months ago and I love it. I like it a lot better than my stock one i had. Smooth and easy. I would reccoment the hurst short throw also if you are planning on getting a short throw shifter.
