My oil pump is toast

Who here has replaced or upgraded their LS1 oil pump?

What did you get?
Were you happy with it? Why/why not?

Several people have mentioned ARE ported oil pumps. I can't seem to find them. Anyone have links?

SLP and Thunder racing both have one listed. Anyone use them?

TIA

We have modified LS6 oil pumps for $129.99. Let me know if you would like to place an order for one.

Thanks!

Just curious,
Is this a common problem with some the Ls1s? I had a friend and the same thing happened to his car.

Thx,
Claude

From people I have talked to, 98's can have an oiling problem. I believe the pump was changed for the 99+ models. I have heard of 98's with bad pumps, spun bearings, etc. I don't know how common it is but common enough for me to here about it. I guess say if I were in the market for a car I would probably opt for a 99+.

Thom1-
what exactly happened? Did you happen to look down and notice no oil pressure or has it just been getting lower and lower over time? You didn't mention any engine damage so it sounds like you were able to catch it in time.

I was on my way home from an SCDA driving school at NHIS when the check gauges light drew my attention. The oil pressure guage was bouncing around a lot. I made back home ok (no ticking) and started checking the pressure sensor and wires. Now I'm getting no readin at all on the guage. I replace the sensor, still no reading. Finally I took off the oil filter and started the car. I looked under the car hoping to see oil sprayed everywhere but .......
you guessed it. Nothing but clean, dry floor. Now I'm hearing bit of top end ticking. I know what I have to do. I think I just got really lucky and caught it in time. There was no top end noise til that last time I started the car. Thats why I originally thought it was the sensor or guage/wiring.
