All of that is overkill.... from the mega-expensive oil, to the pricey filter to the extremely short oil changes.es

Not to mention that you should be using 0w or 5w30, not 10w30 in the LS1.

Mobil-1 5w30 Synthetic, Mobil-1 Filter, change every 5000 miles.

overkill is a great thing. just run the oil a little longer unless it is a track baby. i run the amsoil for 10,000 miles and not the possible 25,000. i like the insurance. still have over 300,000 on two of my daily drivers and they pull trailers(gas motors not diesels). i used to run mobil with no problems but switched to amsoil for the extra hp and gas mileage

My only gripe against RP is that when I tore the motor down after running it for 2 seasons there was tons or black residue in the pan.

Just use any name brand 5w-30, change it regularly, done. Concern yourself with other aspects of your car besides what fluids you are using.

I have heard of problems like this from Royal Purple. An oil tech guy I know that is an engineer for Harley Davidson considers it a "snake oil" and highly recommends against it...

Hell, with that oil/filter combo you could even go 10k and be ok. I'd change every 6mo though. (once a season for most ppl here that garage their cars in the winter).

Although, if i was going to the track alot i'm not sure how often I'd change the oil. That's a good question..?

Agreed on most brands are ok, but that "fluid" is the only thing providing a "lubricating" film between your crankshaft/rods when you're spinning 6,500+ RPM.

I use Pennzoil Platinum Full Syn. 10w30. No problems at all. Everyone always bashes Pennzoil, but there is no truth in it. Like said, prettymuch any name brand oil and you'll be ok.

I thought a while ago Mobil 1 touted their oil as 25,000 mile oil (?) I see that is no longer the truth - my problem with that is I think you would want to change the filter in that 25k somewhere

The owners manual calls for 5w30 as the standard. It also says that you can use 10w-30 if you never see temps below 40 degrees.

And as far as 5w-30 being thinner than 10w-30 that true but only during start up when the oil is stone cold. The 5w and 10w is the viscosity when cold. The 30 is the viscosity when warm/hot. So they are both the same visc. at running temps.
