ok 1 all ss's are from slp no difference. 2 the ws6 and ss and z28 and trans am;s are all equally as fast. piston slap is a condition where the piston makes a slapping noise on start up wich seems to be semi common with ls1 more so with 01-02's.

i thought the ss was done in house and then if you wanted the zr1 style rims or the dual dual exhaust or the 1le package you had to have it done at slp. maybe im wrong but thats what i was told. when i bought my car the stat sheet said $39000 and that included the ss uplifter package and then another sheet that was from slp which included the zr1 style wheels, dd exhaust and some of the other extras for another $2900 or so.

From what I've seen you could get various SLP add ons as options. I've seen SS's w/ SLP exhaust and stock wheels' etc. The one I just bought has the SS grill insert from SLP but nothing else. I'm not saying that couldn't have been added on, but I have seen other SS's come with it off the showroom. You could also opt for the quad tip exhaust. A totally decked out SLP SS comes with some suspension mods, diff wheels, BFG tires, exhaust, etc.

Hey you forgot Formulas

A little more in depth on the slap. Aluminum engine, short skirted aluminum pistons, = a little noise until the pistons warm and grow to fill the bore better. There are no ill effects from this except the irritation factor

Also didn't that car come in only 1 color, Red w/ Silver Stripes and it was the 35th Anniversary SS ?? I remember back in November 2001, local chev dealer had 1 w/ T-Tops and damn that car was $ 42,000...

Actually, most all of the 35th edition's won't have those options as the dealers who ordered them don't know any better.

There is a comparo in the August 02 issue of MM&FF where they had the 35th SS against an 03 Cobra... best for the SS: 13.2 @ 106 and for the Cobra: 12.7 @ 106 missing 4th... you all probably remember this comparo, but the point is, it was just a standard SS w/o any Y2Y options.
