more cam ?'s
more cam ?'s
ok, after asking the forums, i do plan on getting a dyno tune right away after install. im still going over my options. Speed Eng. is having a good sale on their comp cams. I'm debating over the ENG-XER281HR-Comp Cam-232/234-.595/.598, ENG-XR281HR-Comp Cam-228/230-.571/.573, and the ENG-XER273HR-Comp Cam-224/230-.581/.588. Basically im concerned with streetablility. i'm very interested in the 224/230. I know a lot of people are using the f13 on the street, and these are all pretty close. Anyways, what would you guys reccommend? Also, if the XER281 is too extreme, should i go with the 224/230 high lift, or the 228/230? Lastly, after the tune, will the car still surge for a while after startup, or will the tune take care of that? anything else i should be aware of? what about drilling a hole in the tb plate? reccommended? Basically, i am looking for mid-high rpm power and streetability as i don't go to the track too much.
Does anyone have any links to dyno results with any of these?
thanks in advance

Re: more cam ?'s
since it's an M6 all of those should be streetable. but if it's a concern just stay away from the biggest on your list. all the others should tame right down with a good tune.
at first startup, it is likely that it will surge a but untill it warms up. once it gets out of the startup loop (never remember open or closed) it should smooth out.

Re: more cam ?'s
I tuned two Torquer v.2 cams to be extremely streetable. They're in stalled A4 cars, idle like a gem, don't surge at a stop, and haven't had any stalling issues that I haven't been able to fix. Their cam specs are 232/234 .595/.598 112lsa. You'll probably need to tweek the TB set screw to keep it running once installed, but I wouldn't shy away from this kind of cam for driveability. As long as you have the right supporting mods, that first cam will do just fine.
The only thing I worry about with a cammed car running that lift is the double spring setup. It's recommended that you let the car get up to operating temps before you go anywhere...something about potentially breaking the springs in the valvetrain. I'm the type that doesn't want to sit around too long idling (and pissing off the neighbors in the morning). So, I might find a setup runnig a 918 spring, which puts my personal limit close to .580 lift. Just my $0.02.

Thanks guys, all the info i can get is helpful. I plan on running the patriot gold springs (dual), not to worried about the neighbors as long as my car is running good....I am considering the first cam, but i figure with my stock intake, it might be over camming the engine. Still open to any ideas you guys can give me though....keep em coming
thanks again
thanks again

Al, the more I think about it, the more I agree w/ you about the whole warm-up procedure. You just hear so many things about what to do and what not to do, you begin to lose track of what's fact and what's opinion.

Re: more cam ?'s
the intake will be coming shortly after the cam....i want to get the more expensive stuff out of the way...going to buy a house soon, so spending more now, will be better then when im in deeper debt
Re: more cam ?'s
You may know this already, but you don't want to put decent sized or large purchases on you credit card if you've got a house pending and are already approved for the loan. It'll drop your credit rating and they'll recheck it prior to closing. If its lower they'll either drop the loan totally or increase your intrest rate.
