Mods, Mods, OH and Mods

Ok, I just bought my slp air box lid, and im going to install it on saturday. I need to know whats next on my list for mods. I have a stock air filter and I was thinking of replacing that. What kind should I purchase, K&N, or I have heard a bit about Holley filters. Next I was thinking exhaust. Either Loudmouth or Borla, is there anything i should do before exhaust, and, or the filter. A little list for simple mods would be greately appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

Just look around on performance sites.

Typical first mods consist of intake and exhaust. Get some CAI, then the cat-back. Then you can do headers, y-pipe, short shifter, maybe some suspension/chassis stuff. Then once you do some bolt-ons it's time for bigger stuff like a heads and cam, or nitrous, or a supercharger, whichever you feel fit to deal with.

Just make sure to think ahead before doing stuff so you don't end up spending unnecessary amouts of cash. Like if you're gonna go with headers, it will make your exaust unbarable if you go with Loudmouth, so try to find a way for a happy medium. But yeah, you'll find little things like that here and there. So yeah, just plan things out, you'll save a couple hundred bucks.

I'll second that. Don't go spendin $$ on mods that you might end up replacing with something better later, or with something that will require you to remove the other mod. Don't buy something for the "time being". Wait until you can get what you need for the long run.

Since you already got the SLP lid - get your K&N filter, the original one will have to be replaced anyway soon.... and the K&N is washable and re-useable...... smooth air bellow (get the cheap one from the hardwarestore for 14 $ , not the expensive one from slp)...Flowmaster muffler isn't too bad and is not too loud with headers......

For a little bit more money than a Borla Cat-Back, you can get a full true dual exhaust setup!!

Jet-Hot LT's - $540 shipped
Dr. Gas X-Pipe kit (3" in/out) - $220 shipped
Dynomax Bullet Mufflers (12" long x 3" in/out) - $40 ea.

That's only $840 for parts!!! What's the Borla, like around $700, right? Will give a lot more power than just a catback (and still more power than full y-pipe setup exhaust w/ headers, o/r y-pipe and catback setup), and sounds way better than y-pipe setup (No rasp, and is deep and bassy, sounds mean as hell!!!)!!!!!!!!!!

Flowmaster catback for LS1's is horrible, please do not get it!!!!!!!! It sounds good, but flows like crap!!!!! And get the Holley Powershot for the filter, it fits a lot better and IMO is the better of the two filters!!

Does everyone think the Holley filter is better than a K&N? Also is their a medium between the loudmouth and borla. Borla is too expensive. I just want something moderate at idle and just badass at WOT!!

I would go with the Holley filter, because it fits better that the K&N. As far as exhaust systems go, check out some of our site sponsors for some ideas. Quieter systems include: Magnaflow, Whisper, ATR, Bassani, SLP D/D, Hooker, etc. Make sure you grab some sub-frame connectors in the near future too. Your car will love you for them. Good luck!

I prefer Fram paper filters as the K&N showed no HP increase on the dyno and I'd prefer the filter to be disposable. The LM is a decent cat-back for the price and it is all stainless. It will drone and pop, tho... Some easy, cheap mods are ASP pulley and belts, Pro 5.0 shifter, FRA or FTRA, LCAs and Panhard rod, ported TB and a 160 t-stat.

Dynomouth. Either by Loudmouth and replace the resonator in it w/ a dynomax bullet muffler, or the cheaper way would be to have an exhaust shop that can work w/ three inch piping custom make a 3" catback for you and stick the dynomax bullet in the i-pipe (they'll make the straight through catback cheaper than what a loudmouth would cost).
