Question Mobil-1 oil filters and free ram air?

Fellas,

I'm confused as to what is the best oil filter for my F-Body(2001 SS). I normally purchase the Mobil-1 M1-107 oil filter but recently saw that the Mobil-1 M1-206 is better. True? or False? The M1-206 is about an inch longer, so would this present any problems?
These Mobil-1 oil filters and the top of the line Mobil-1 synthetic oil can be purchased at you local Auto Zone and no where else! I checked around. Called my local Chevy dealer and they know what size filter would fit my car!

Also, there is a "free ram air" mod you can do to your air lid. using a Dremel, you cut the inside bottom layer out and this supposedly will add more horsepower..... Does anyone have any experience with this mod and what are the pros and cons?

This site......http://www.installuniversity.com/ is where the speak about these modifications. Click on "Install Documents" to the left of the main page then click on "Free ram air" and "Oil Change". Any info is appreciated!

Thank You

I did the free ram air mod, dunno if I actually got any hp from it, but I guess the pro is the filter is exposed more so it can bring in more air. The con is my filter gets dirtier quicker. But it must be doing something because the filter is the dirtiest where I removed the plastic.

I felt a difference with my cat-back and lid, but not with FRA. Not to say that FRA doesn't add horsepower, but I didn't feel a difference. I imagine it does add some power considering it opens up a lot more space for air to travel through. And yes, the downside is the filter gets dirtier more often. I haven't had any first-hand experience with this downside because I've only had FRA for about a week but have read about it in forums and some install documents inform you of this beforehand. It was easy to do with a dremel. The mentioned installuniversity.com document is easy to follow to perform the mod.

If I am not mistaken the M1-206 is the filter for the GM truck motor. The reason some people say it is better for our cars is because it has the extra little bit of filtration because it is longer. I could not find a Mobile1 filter last time I changed my oil so I just used a Fram Xtreme (at least I think that was what it was called, the one in the black box) but I got the one made for the truck to put on mine. Fits fine and doesnt hang down enough to worry about, if you hit that oil filter you better start worrying about other things, like your exhaust being ripped out.
