Mcleod Adjustable/New clutch

I just installed my ram 402/980, mcleod master, and slp replacement flywheel. I haven't finished my commitment to at least a decent break in period yet, so I haven't really ROMPED on it.. However, I have did several 3/4 throttle granny shift runs. The car has some REALLY strange habits. It doesn't grind all the time, but random gears will grind. Usually the first three gears are the problem causers. The car also doesn't want to go into 1st gear sometimes, like there is a brick wall.. 2nd gear does this on occasion, but it might be skipshift. When I do try to change into 1st and 2nd and it doesn't work, it feels like the gear isn't there. Its like I'm hitting a divider. The tranny is also really notchy in neutral, sometimes you can hear a slight shifter grind in neutral like its halfway in a gear. Any ideas on what I should do? Pedal pressure is excellent. Do you think its possible to try bleeding a little more, or adjusting the master to get rid of these probs? Or do these probs sound internal to the tranny?

Thanks

You need more disengagment. Bleed it some more and if that doesn't help. Make the clutch rod longer so that it will open the pressure plate a little farther so that it will let go of the clutch disc completely.

Adjusted master all the way out and back in, still no luck.
I bought the transmission off a board member named Cole here.
He claimed the transmission was good. At any rate, the very first
time I gave it about 3/4 throttle and shifted it at about 5200 playing with a chopper (who ran door to door with me, btw).. the damn thing got stuck in 4th gear, I had to drive it home in 4th and it was making some rattling noises. Time for D&D rebuild.

*sigh* What a waste of $900 or so bucks. If I find the guy who sold it to me, I'm asking for reimbursement. When I got the tranny it didn't even go through any gears, and he said its cuz it needed to be in the car and the shaft turning to change gears. The shaft wouldn't even turn. So I paid a tranny shop to look at it, and they said the tranny was definately not recently used. It had not one drop of residue, and several parts looked thrown together. They didn't even put the roll pin in the linkage. They charged me about $100. So, now I have $1000 in a tranny that has no 2nd gear, and also has what I guess to be bent shift forks. They mentioned at the tranny shop, that the tranny looked like it had alot of the parts had wear on them, especially in 2nd.. they also said it'd probably hold up for a while for my daily driver tho. During this time I would have saved money for new rebuild, but apparently they were wrong

A friend with a 2000 vett used the Mcleod clutch and the there master cylinder with bad results. As far as I know he didn't have the grinding issue just the engagment problems when shifting at rpms above 6000. He even bought the Z06 hydralics and sent it of to be tweaked and he has the same problem! I have a 01 M6 with a SPEC stage 3 carbon/carbon and Iam using the stock hydralics without the drill out mod with no problems.

I will tell you that my clutch was super stiff during the break in peroid...500miles....and after the first time I ran it through the gears the clutch was easier to push in......I drove a 02 ramair with the stock clutch the other night and boy i don't miss the soft stock feel any at all.

Yeah. The engagement problems are like.. not a brick wall as in like feel. But like the gear isn't there at all unless you downshift there. I thought this might be skipshift, however, the tranny did this when on the ground too. The seller said you had to turn the input shaft to get it to go in, that alot of trannies are like that. Little did I know, the gear barely works at all. Something has come apart inside, and its making all sorts of rattling noises. But yes, the mcleod did give me a few problems at first.. but after getting it bled and adjusted.. I haven't had a problem since. I also didn't shift past somewhere in the low-mid 5k rpm range either. But that isn't of consequence now, because the tranny is stuck in 4th gear, and screwed up anyways.
