Mass Airflow Meter Question

A couple questions. So far, I have only found two aftermarket MAF for the LS1, the SLP and the Granatelli. I'm wondering why the SLP costs almost half as much as the Grantelli.

The secon question is, is a MAF a simple bolt on? Or does it require tuning and computer work or a seperate unit? Will it affect gas milage or emmisions or anything like that?

Granatelli likes to charge more... and they also claim a better HP gain. The MAF sensor is a simple bolt on that will take less than 30 minutes to install. It will take a little while for the ECM to learn the program of the aftermarket MAF. It wont affect emissions and comes with a carb sticker.

What about the Z06 MAF conversion. I just found this and is says it adds 18hp and it is the same price as the SLP. Anyone have this or has any comments on it?

I just put in an SLP maf today I got off of ebay. It is throwing an SES light after about 10 minutes of driving. The screen is removed. Anyone know if this is normal or if it's because the screen is removed? I am sure that everything is airtight. Seems to breathe better though!

It's because the screen is removed. That screws up the calibration. I have a SLP and the cars feel more responsive and quicker. However I had it dynoed a week ago and the car is running quite rich, not lean which is a good thing but the meter is supposed to lean the A/F mixture. I'm gonna remove it tomorrow and see how the car runs with the stock meter back in. Granatelli now sells a cheaper model mass air that's around the same price as the SLP. If I were to get another mass air it would be a Pace. Haven't heard anything bad about them and some people get great gains with them.
