Many problems: Running REAl rich, clicking noise from valvetrain, and SES light on

Well I was at the track and I guess I fudged something up real bad. My friend took it for a run and came back and the car was shaking pretty bad. I parked it and turned it off. I started it back up and it didnt really want to start, but did. I revved it a little and there is a ticking noise coming from the passenger side of the engine. My guess is either a pushrod, valve spring, or the valve itself is busted. It run SUPER rich and the SES light is on, it blinks while I am moving in gear, if not its just on. Gonna take it to Autozone tomorrow and get the code checked. Any one have any other ideas/thoughts on what else it could be?

I got the valve cover of the passenger side and the springs look ok. How can you tell if a pushrod is bent? Do you have to take the RR's off? Or will you know it when you see it?

If its not the pushrods or springs, what else do you think would cause this? I started the engine up with the cover off and the RR's seem to all be functioning as they are supposed to.

What would cause a ticking noise, the car to run really rich and the SES light to go on and blink while driving?

I would imagine that you would need to take out the pushrods to check and see if they are bent, it could be bent so little that you cannot see it without taking them out. Have you thought about the lifters? One could be running dry or something.

If it was my car, i would take the rockers off, the pushrods out, and the lifters, and inspect everything. If you ses light is blinking, it is a serious problem.

How much is a spring compression tool? That way I can take off the springs. The pushrods are coming out here in a minute. Any other thoughts while I go try to unF*CK my car?

Well I found the problem

I bent THE **** outta like 3 pushrods!
One is damn near the shape of a Z (Letter not the car.....)

So I will be getting some newer stronger ones. Any suggestions on where to get some for a decent price? I also assume I should get some chromemoly ones correct?

www.cmotorsports.com has some for like $85. Any other places I should look?

comp or MTI or anything like that is fine there is really only like two companys that make the chrommoly pushrods for all the dealers out there. Just make sure if you you get 7.400 unless you heads or deck have been milled i think i payed $120 for my comp hi-tech pushrods so yea 85 ins't a bad deal for the regular version

Well, if I read correctly, your friend broke it, so get the most expensive ones possible and make him pay for it

Go to the intenal engine forum and ask them on all seriosness if you are still unsure, though. Or call thunder racing, texas speed, or whoever you feel comfertble dealing with and ask them.

After you fix the rods, I would see if the car is throwing and more codes and I would look at a reprogram (cuz of the running rich before). I would also check your exhaust to check for clogs. Check your plugs and wires, too.

Plugs and wires are good. It was running rich because the pushrod was so bent that the RR couldnt do anything but go up.

I think I am going to go with stock pushrods due to the fact that chromemoly ones will break other parts instead of bending. So as a precaution I think stock is a good call. Besides, I am getting some stock ones damn near free!
